About K.M. Woods Physiotherapy - Newton Mearns

KM Woods Physiotherapy Newton Mearns - our expert physiotherapists are specialists in assessing and treating dance injuries, musculoskeletal joint and muscle conditions, sports injuries and vestibular difficulties.

Our clinic environments are welcoming and modern, equipped with modern treatment facilities. Because people live busy lives, we provide free parking, appointments at the weekend and evening.

Musculoskeletal Conditions

When you book in at one of KM Woods private physiotherapy clinics, you are consulting expert physiotherapists who have a wide range of expertise in the assessment and treatment of injuries and pain conditions. Looking for back pain relief, neck pain relief or something to ease your sciatica? We can speed up your return to normal activities and relieve your pain.

We are skilled in the management of recent onset back pain, chronic back pain, lumbar spinal stenosis, arthritis, joint pains, muscle strains and many other pain issues. Apart from physiotherapy management such as mobilisations, exercise programmes and advice, we provide acupuncture, sports massage and Pilates.

Every week at our clinics we are consulted by over fifty sufferers of whiplash neck pain, and we can provide help with education, advice, postural awareness, home exercises and acupuncture.

Dance Injuries

Dance technique and dance injuries or performance injuries, especially in younger persons, are one of our specialist interests. We manage dancers who practice ballet, Irish and Highland dance and more modern types such as hip hop and contemporary dance. The growing pains and flexibility that occur in the teenage years may result in temporary muscle weakness. Repeated dance performances and practice can then produce minor injuries.

Musculoskeletal pain conditions that we treat include foot pain, hamstring strain, shin splints, anterior knee pain, groin strain and Achilles tendonitis. Our physio can check your dance techniques and correct weaknesses before they turn into problems.

Sports Injuries

Our physios have a lot of experience in managing sports injuries from keen teenage players to elite athletes.

  • Runners. Overuse injuries from medium to long-distance running, in both fitness and elite runners, are routinely managed by our clinics. Once we have checked out the presenting complaint of pain, we look at what the whole person is doing in their running and training cycles, aiming for good flexibility, strength and muscle balance throughout those cycles.
  • Football. Contact sports have a typical group of injuries which relate to collisions and sudden impacts including ankle sprains, knee ligament injuries, pulled hamstrings, groin strains and injuries to the knee cartilage. Our aim is to get you back on the pitch as soon as we can by treating your problem quickly and effectively.
  • Golf. Playing golf brings its own set of physical strains and stresses which shows itself in particular problem that keen golfers suffer from. Tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow, upper back tension, shoulder restrictions and wrist pain are typical complaints.
  • Boxers have a particular set of injuries and problems associated with their typical postures adopted during training, sparring and in fights. We have experience in managing these types of issues.
  • Gym training. Overtraining and poor exercise technique are common in gym attendees and advice about these issues complements treatment of the soft tissue injury.

Domiciliary Visits – Home Visit Physiotherapy

We know that older people can find it difficult or impossible to get out to one of our clinics so we provide a home visit service. Our physio will come to you and see you there if you are elderly, unwell or have had a recent operation. The assessment and treatment will occur in your own home surroundings.

We can help with:

  • Reduced balance and mobility, especially in older persons
  • Post-operative rehabilitation, for instance after hip replacement, knee replacement or spinal operation
  • Stroke rehab, to continue therapy work after NHS physio completion
  • Falls
  • Walking aids and appliances

Vertigo & Dizziness

Vertigo or dizziness can interfere badly with normal life by affecting balance, limiting movement and causing nausea. This can be the results of BPPV, Meniere’s disease, labyrinthitis or may not have a diagnosis.

Vestibular dysfunction is one of our core abilities and we are able to do the Epley manoeuvre to put inner ear crystals back into a better position.

Occupational Health & Workplace Assessments

Musculoskeletal conditions cause important amounts of work loss and sickness absence in businesses. We are up to date with all the current legislation and can help commercial businesses and public sector units to optimise health and wellbeing in their staff.
