• About Helen

Helen Gordon is an experienced physiotherapist who left the NHS after 21 years service to develop her private practice in Wareham in 2010. She is committed to providing the highest standards of physiotherapy service for her patients and ensuring the practice develops and maintains a range of innovative services.

Helen qualified as a physiotherapist at the Middlesex Hospital in London in 1989. During her time in the NHS she worked in outpatients, managed GP surgery physiotherapy clinics and spent four years in a specialist pain management team. She also gained experience working in several private practices.

Helen’s special interests include joint mobilisation and manipulation techniques pioneered by Cyriax, Mulligan and Maitland, myofascial release and muscle energy techniques. She is a registered member of the AACP (Acupuncture Association of Chartered Physiotherapists) and has been using acupuncture for almost 15 years.

Her role in the Chronic Pain Management Service was to help teach people with long-term pain to manage their condition more effectively. She and the team used a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) approach to facilitate the learning of skills such as pacing, goal setting, graded exercise, re-education of posture and relaxation.

Pain management uses a holistic approach to address the emotional and psychological factors that may help maintain a person’s pain levels. She brings this holistic treatment approach to her private patients to help them optimise their recovery and potential.
