Dance Injuries

Assessing dance technique and dance injuries or performance injuries, especially in younger people, is a specialised skill. We treat injuries from ballet, Irish and Highland dance and more modern types such as hip hop and contemporary. Teenage flexibility and growth spurts may result in some muscle weakness, increasing the chances of injury from repetitive loading during practice and performance.

We can manage a wide variety of pain problems including: foot pain, hamstring strain, shin splints, anterior knee pain, groin strain and Achilles tendonitis. Once the pain problem has been treated, we can look at mistakes in dance technique to eliminate the chances of recurrence.

Sports Injuries

We are experts in managing sports physio and we see a great variety of sports injuries and conditions daily.

  • Running. We deal with top level athletes and occasional runners as all of them are affected by increasing their running distances without preparing enough for the change. Along with the injury we look at the way the person is using their body as they run so we can correct weaknesses in style. We then work on improving flexibility, strength and muscle balance through the stride cycle.
  • Footballers suffer a large variety of injuries and pain, including ankle sprains, knee ligament sprains, hamstrings strains, groin strains and knee cartilage injuries. We can get you back to playing quickly with our experience of diagnosing the problem and dealing with it. li>
  • Golfers consult us when their pain problem gets in the way of their game and we deal with conditions including tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow, upper back tension, shoulder restrictions and wrist pain.
  • Boxing injuries. We have experience in managing the typical injuries experienced in the ring and in boxing training.
  • Gym training too much or using incorrect technique can cause pain and injuries. We treat the injury then we advise on good training postures and technique.

Home Visits - Domiciliary Physiotherapy

Managing effort and the transport to attend a clinic can be hard if you have had a recent op, are unwell or unsteady. Our domiciliary physiotherapy service means our physios come to your address and assess and treat you at home.

Examples of conditions we deal with include:

  • Loss of balance and mobility, especially in the elderly
  • Post op rehabilitation, for instance after hip replacement, knee replacement or back operations
  • Stroke treatment, to follow on from NHS physio

Vertigo & Dizziness

Vertigo and dizziness can produce nausea, interfere with normal life and balance difficulties. This can be due to Meniere’s disease, labyrinthitis, BPPV or be without an obvious diagnosis.

Vestibular dysfunction is one of our specialities and we can assess and rehabilitate people with this condition. The Epley manoeuvre is one of the treatments we use to restore the inner ear crystals to their correct position.
